Cal Poly Humboldt and Humboldt Transit Authority at odds over continuation of evening route into spring 2027 semester

Cal Poly Humboldt administrators say the evening Orange route is continuing at least until the end of the spring 2027 semester. The Humboldt Transit Authority (HTA) said that they had received no updates from the university about such plans.

During a University Senate meeting on Oct. 13, CPH administrators passed out a document of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) with information regarding the recent cuts to public transit.

The HTA said that they had not been notified that the university had plans to extend the evening Orange route next semester and that the university has not communicated with them on this issue.

“CPH has not contacted HTA to request continuing evening service through the Spring semester, but we are pleased to hear that they are interested in doing so and look forward to connecting with them on this topic,” the HTA said.

On Oct. 22, CPH sent out an email with FAQs about local bus transit services, which is the first official communication from the university about the cuts to public transportation.

CPH’s Marketing and Communications Department (MarCom) said that they forgot to send out the FAQ earlier. MarCom confirmed that CPH is working with the HTA next semester.

“As the FAQ mentions, we are funding evening weekday service on the Orange line through the Spring 2027 semester,” says MarCom. “We’ve reached out to the HTA to finalize support of the evening service next semester, and we’re working on options for service beyond that period.”
