The Umoja Center for Pan African Student Excellence at Cal Poly Humboldt is continuing its search for a new coordinator following the departure of former coordinator Alexus-Harelle Deshazier in March. Applications for the permanent position opened in May and closed Aug. 17. The university is expected to announce the new hire near the end of September, although that is still subject to change.

Jaguar Smith has served as interim coordinator since June, after being asked to step into the role in May.

Cal Poly Humboldt cut funding for multiple bus services used by students this fall semester. Two of Arcata’s evening transit routes (the Red and Gold lines) plus the “Green and Gold” line are gone, according to the Humboldt Transit Authority.

As a result, evening bus services around Arcata will be less frequent. Both CPH and the HTA confirmed the evening Orange route will continue until the end of this semester.

The day routes on the Red and Gold lines will continue operations as normal. The “Green and Gold” line, which mostly acted as a supplemental line to the Gold line, is completely gone. CPH’s changes do not impact other cities’ routes such as Eureka and McKinleyville with HTA.

The 40th annual “I” Block Party will be held on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7 in front of Los Bagels in Arcata. Starting at noon, community members will come together to enjoy live local music, folklórico, food, mariachi and more. Admission is free and all are welcome.
