CORRECTION: On Oct. 7 at 12:30 p.m around 50 people gathered in front of the Josiah Lawson mural at the D. street Community Center. Protestors were led by student activist Rick Toledo and walked north on LK Wood Blvd. Around 100 protestors were gathered in front of the Cal Poly Humboldt sign on Sunset Ave. chanting, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will live forever!” along with other chants.
For the protestors Oct. 7 represents a year since the escalation of genocide and displacement of Palestinanians in Isreal. A safety team, medics and legal observers were also a part of the Palestine walkout to keep people safe.
On Oct. 7 the Hamas group killed more than 1,200 Israelies, not all Jewish, and held more than 200 captive. On Oct. 8 Israel declared war on Hamas, which has killed more than 41,500 people in Gaza according to NPR’s article on Oct. 2.
“We are trying to do things in a different way that keeps us off campus so we don’t break TPM,” said Toledo.
Toledo explained that this group is not affiliated with the group who is also protesting at the University quad today.
“I would urge the administration and the CSU system to consider full divestment from Israel and a drastic altering of the TPM policy…,” said Toledo.
