Sage Alucero, a multimedia artist, explores the inbetweenness of queer expression and the natural world through a variety of art mediums from oil painting to embroidery. Upon moving to Humboldt after graduating from UC Santa Cruz with a bachelor’s degree in history of art and visual culture, they find inspiration from the lush redwood forest, diversity of mushrooms, and learn about the local culture of the landback movement.

When he’s not repairing asphalt, pouring concrete, or doing demolition, Pedro Martinez is working to reach the university’s sustainability goals. Martinez is originally from Pico Union, a historic neighborhood in Los Angeles, west of Downtown LA, where he was one of nine kids.

“In my neighborhood, we had a lot of smart young men and women who for some reason or another, they joined the gang and decided to neglect their education, as I did,” Martinez said.

College life is a new environment for many people, and dorm life can be a little overwhelming as well, especially with the constant smell of weed. Surprisingly it’s easy to find drugs on campus and 10x easier to find alcohol. As college students, we all have the choice to decide if we do or do not take drugs or drink alcohol. Humboldt has resources if you ever believe you are too far gone.
