Undocumented Student Action Week events to be held Oct. 22-29

Scholars Without Borders (SWB) will be hosting a series of events to highlight Undocumented Student Action Week from Oct. 22-29. The free events are open to both the community and students to come together for a week of fun and relaxation.

SWB is an organization on campus that creates a space for mixed-status students to seek support. Undocumented Student Action Week is an event SWB has led in the past and is a part of a California state-wide initiative for colleges. This year’s theme at CPH aligns with the Community Dialogue on Race events, “dis/connecting to reconnect,” which inspired the interactive activities featured in Undocumented Student Action Week, focusing on rest, resistance and community empowerment.

“It’s focusing on reconnecting with your roots with each other as a campus, solidarity with undocumented students, but also highlighting that rest especially in the hyperproductive and capitalist society that we live in is a form of resistance,” said Yaneyry Delfin, the SWB Director.

Delfin emphasizes the importance of taking the time to recognize and celebrate undocumented students.

“We want everybody to come and just stand in community for undocumented students who regardless of how terrible this [presidential] administration is right now and the challenges and the everyday psychological terror that students face, they continue to come to class, to do their assignments, to go to work, to do organize work and to still be on the front lines for student leadership and all these things, I think we need to honor that and uplift the community,” Delfin said.
