As of Wednesday, April 24, protesters still occupy Siemens Hall at Cal Poly Humboldt.
At 2:12 p.m. Cal Poly Humboldt sent out an email alerting the campus community that campus will be closed until Sunday, April 28.
The email read, “CAL POLY HUMBOLDT ALERT- Campus will be closed through Sunday, April 28, and work and instruction continue to be remote due to protestors who continue to occupy Siemens Hall. More details to follow.”
At 2:14 p.m. the CPH released a press release on the university website stating that a second building was being occupied by protesters. El Leñador has not confirmed what the building referred to in the email is. People were seen entering Nelson Hall as a place to use the bathroom and get water.
“It’s being used as a water access point,” said a supporter who wished to be called “M.”
They also said, “The notion that it’s occupied is a misunderstanding at best and at worse a false justification for aggressive action.”
At noon today, California Faculty Association Humboldt hosted a Teach-in on the university quad. The Teach-in consisted of faculty and community members speaking out regarding the protest at Cal Poly Humboldt.
The Teach-in included faculty speakers such as Andrea Delgado, Gabi Kirk, Loren Cannon, and two students from the Women’s Resource Center.
One of the students from the Women’s Resource Center was quoted as saying, “Until Palestine is free, none of us are free.”
Brenda Perez, director of Centro del Pueblo also attended the Teach-in to speak at the protest.
“We are going to take care of the warriors inside,” said Perez as she pointed towards Siemens Hall. “Feel proud, feel great and feel courageous because this don’t end today.”
