How to register to vote in the special election, deadline Oct. 20

Californians still have time to register to vote for the upcoming Proposition 50 special election. According to the California Secretary of State, eligible California residents can register to vote at the following https://registertovote.ca.gov/. Registration ends for the special election on Oct. 20.

Who is eligible to vote 

To qualify to register to vote, one must meet the following requirements according to the California Secretary of State:

  • Be a U.S. citizen and a resident of California
  • 18 years old as of the election day
  • Not currently found to be mentally incompetent by a U.S. court
  • Not currently serving time in prison for a felony conviction

What will you need

During the voter registration process, you will need one of  the following documents: 

  • A California ID
  • A California driver’s license
  • The last four digits of your Social Security Number

Some things to note regarding registering to vote

  • During registration, you can designate separate home and mailing addresses.
  • You must re-register to vote if you move, change your name, or change your political party affiliation
