Immigration Fair set for March 6 in Eureka
On Friday, March 6, Catholic Charities of Northwest California will host an Immigration Fair, providing mostly free legal services. This event will be held from noon to 7 p.m. at the Jefferson Community Center in Eureka.
In order to attend, there is a registration process that can be accessed through the QR code provided in the flyer or by a phone call to their office at 707-578-6000 . After calling, a representative who will be at the fair will confirm what materials are needed for individual cases. The number of appointments is limited so people are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
Teresa Marcelino is the legal services administrator in the Immigration section at Catholic Charities, and says connecting with representatives before the event is important.
“We want to do as much as we can there,” Marcelino said. “That’s why we do the pre-screening and talk to the clients beforehand.”
Since the organization is a non-profit, there are plenty of free resources available at the fair, including:
- -Naturalization services
- -Family based petitions
- -Visas for victims of crimes
- -DACA renewals
- -Work permit renewals
Some services will still need to be paid for, but the fees are lower than they would be if this process were done with a private attorney. One example under this category is assistance with renewing green cards. Other options can also be inquired about.
“If anyone has questions, they are always free to reach out and see if we can help them,” Marcelino said. “There are other services not listed on the flyer where we do help.”
