Kink on Campus main event to be held Nov. 13

On Nov. 6, the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) hosted their second event to begin Kink on Campus, a series of events dedicated to discussions and resources about sexual health. Levia Love, genital skincare specialist and owner and operator of the Bling Brow Bar, came to talk about how to prepare your body for intimacy as part of the Kink on Campus pre-events. Kink on Campus is an annual event hosted by the WRC to educate the community on more consensual safe kinks involving sexual pleasures.

This year the main event will take place on Nov. 13 at 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the Kate Buchanan Room inside the Gutswurrak Student Activities Center. At 6:00 p.m. there will be a Bingo game that will give participants the opportunity to win raffle tickets for sex toys, a bike and other prices. At 6:15 p.m. burlesque dancers, jugglers and others will perform. At 6:45 p.m. the main Drag show will begin and food will arrive at 7:30 p.m. The announcement for the prices will take place at 8:00 p.m.

Levia has wanted to be a licensed cosmetologist since she was 15. After she got her license about 11 years ago, she started working for Benefit Cosmetics at the local ULTA store. She defines the Bling Brow Bar as a business that came “out of the joy and extravagance of being okay with our bodies.”

“I noticed that I really loved the idea of waxing at large so I left the corporate world to wax at my homie’s studio,” Levia said. “Then I moved to my own studio and after that I realized I loved doing Brazilian and brow waxing and I love genital skincare so I decided to focus on that.”

Namixtu’lú Esteva, a senior child development major, was the main organizer for the event and the Environmental Educator for the WRC. Esteva said she had been to a talk by Levia in her freshman year and decided to bring her back for Kink on Campus this year.

“Having these events and being able to bring people who understand and see the world through a collective upbringing. For example, Levia’s experience with intimacy was definitely reflected in the attendees, so having someone that you can see yourself in, combats a dominant narrative [around sex, intimacy and consent],” Esteva said.

Levia believes in empowering people’s decisions about their bodies.

“I feel like our bodies are a gateway to pleasure and however we adorn or decorate, it’s really important,” Levia said. “For me, having hair or not having hair is a personal choice and that is the adornment that I want people to do safely with all of the information possible so when the opportunity came to speak on campus it was an easy decision.”
