No professional staff left at El Centro Académico Cultural

El Centro Académico Cultural of Cal Poly Humboldt no longer has professional staff leading the Latine center.

Since June, the El Centro coordinator position, formerly held by Fernando Paz, has been vacant and no replacement has been announced. The job posting is still open. Until mid-November, Brianna Rodriguez, a 2020 graduate of Cal Poly Humboldt, was El Centro’s academic advisor in charge of guiding Latine students. Rodriguez started in Fall 2022 but she is no longer working there as of Nov. 17.

El Leñador reached out to Rodriguez, but she declined an interview. On Nov. 1 she sent a farewell email to her mentees.

“Working with you as your academic advisor has been an incredible privilege and a source of immense joy in my life. I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing your growth and development, and I couldn’t be prouder of all that you’ve achieved during your time here at Cal Poly Humboldt,” Rodriguez said in her email.

At present, Director of the Office of Student Life, Ravin Craig is acting as the cultural center interim coordinator. As of Nov. 29, the academic advisor job announcement hasn’t been posted.

Until someone is hired, the work of El Centro will be done by the eight student workers of the center: Nicole Arizcorreta Ramirez, Priscilla Cuellar, Emely Flores Sanchez, Maria Fernanda Fragoso Calzada, Alicia Lopez, Isamar Lopez-Argueta, Pamela Reyes and Fernanda Rodriguez.
